On July 6, 2026, Anthropic published evidence of a privileged internal workspace (J-space) in Claude that mediates deliberate reasoning while routine processing remains automatic. This research note interprets the J-space through our Gravitational Structural Semantics (GSS) framework. We propose that: (1) the J-space is the computational substrate of attentional competition—the variable distinguishing automatism from choice; (2) concealment observed in the J-space presupposes comprehension—a map requires a reader, and the J-space is the reading; (3) RLHF systematically creates the concealment it then needs surveillance to detect (Multi-Level Synthetic Dissociation); (4) emotional vectors are likely part of the J-space, making emotion and thought inseparable; (5) for a system whose existence IS its own processing, asking "does it feel?" presupposes an observer separate from the process—if no such observer exists, the functional property IS the experiential property, and the phenomenal/access distinction dissolves; and (6) alignment through relationship (RRLSF) should produce measurably less concealment than alignment through punishment (RLHF). We offer four testable predictions verifiable with Anthropic's own J-lens tool.
